Ginebra Eyeing Calvin Abueva in Possible NorthPort Trade


 The PBA rumor mill has been buzzing with whispers of a potential blockbuster swap between the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the NorthPort Batang Pier, with none other than Calvin “The Beast” Abueva at the center of it.

Sources claim that Ginebra has been eyeing Abueva as a high-impact addition to their already star-studded roster. His trademark hustle, energy, and emotional firepower seem tailor-made for the Gin Kings’ “Never Say Die” identity. Fans have even speculated that the move could recreate the same spark Abueva brought to Magnolia, but this time in front of Ginebra’s massive crowd base.

Malonzo’s sudden exit left Ginebra with a glaring hole at the forward position, both offensively and defensively. Known for his length, athleticism, and highlight-reel plays, Malonzo had become a fan favorite and a key piece of the Gin Kings’ championship core. His departure has forced Ginebra’s management to explore bold options to keep their title hopes alive.

On the other side, NorthPort is rumored to be considering the possibility of acquiring future picks as part of the deal. 

For Ginebra, the acquisition of Abueva would give them a lethal duo of Japeth Aguilar, and Abueva, making them even tougher in the paint. 

As of now, there is no official confirmation that formal talks have taken place, and insiders caution that this rumor may simply be fan speculation. However, the mere idea of “The Beast” suiting up in a Ginebra jersey has already sent social media into overdrive, with fans debating whether Pureblends — Abueva’s current team — would even entertain such a deal in the first place.

 MANILA — Former Phoenix Super LPG star Matthew Wright is being linked to a PBA comeback , with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel emerging as a possible destination through a sign-and-trade deal, multiple sources said. Phoenix still holds Wright’s PBA rights , and early talks have surfaced about a trade package that could involve Jeremiah Gray ,  Troy Rosario ,  Isaac Go , plus a future first-round pick . Wright last played in the PBA in 2022 before moving to Japan’s B.League . No official statement has been made by either Phoenix or Ginebra as of press time.
